Amongst the main museums in the city, the Kunsthaus Graz is both an important art gallery and prominent local landmark, resembling a bubble in its appearance and often referred to by locals as a 'friendly alien'. Regarded as one of the leading modern buildings in the whole of Europe, the Kunsthaus Graz contains an array of temporary exhibitions, although these are often a little overshadowed by its overall appearance.

Other notable museums in Graz include the rather unusual Landeszeughaus (Museum of Armour), which is home to more than 30,000 pieces of weaponry and is the largest of its size in existence. Full of information about the Styria region, the Stadtmuseum (City Museum) dates back more than 80 years and resides within the Palais Khuenberg, while for more in the way of art, both the Neue Galerie and the Künstlerhaus are worth a look




The Museum of the Diocese Graz-Seckau (Diözesanmuseum) is filled with religious artefacts and historical treasures, and can be entered through the cloister of the Minoriten Monastery. Something quite unique in Graz is the Schloss und Schlüsselmuseum / Hanns Schell Collection (Key and Lock Museum), where you will discover a vast collection of historical locking mechanisms, boxes and caskets, including ornate keys from as far back as Roman times.
